Care should be seen, shared, and easier to reach.
Care Out Loud is a community movement created to make mental health and substance use support more visible across Onslow County. It is about helping people feel less alone, making resources easier to find, and encouraging conversations that lead to connection, understanding, and hope.
Caring out loud means showing support in ways people can see and feel. It means checking in, speaking with compassion, sharing resources, listening without judgment, and helping others know that support exists before they reach a crisis point.
A message with a mission
Care Out Loud is more than a phrase. It is a reminder that mental health matters, substance use support matters, and community connection matters.
Too often, people struggle quietly because they do not know where to turn, do not know what services are available, or feel unsure about asking for help. Care Out Loud challenges that silence by making support more open, visible, and connected.
When we care out loud, we create a community where people are encouraged to seek help, families can find direction, and organizations can work together to better support those who need care.
What caring out loud looks like
Awareness
Caring out loud means bringing mental health and substance use conversations into the open with compassion and care. It means helping reduce shame, increasing understanding, and reminding people that these issues affect individuals, families, workplaces, schools, and neighborhoods throughout our community.
Access
Caring out loud means helping people find support more easily. Whether someone is looking for counseling, crisis services, peer support, substance use treatment, family support, military connected resources, or help figuring out where to begin, access matters.
Hope
Caring out loud means reminding people that support is possible. Hope can begin with one conversation, one trusted person, one referral, or one resource that helps someone take the next step.
Collaboration
Caring out loud means working together. OMHAC brings organizations, professionals, community partners, and residents together to strengthen connections, share information, and identify ways to better support mental health and substance use needs in Onslow County.
Why it matters
No one should have to navigate support alone.
Many people begin searching for help when they are already overwhelmed. Families may not know which services are available. Individuals may feel unsure about who to call. Community providers may want to help but need stronger connections across systems and organizations.
Care Out Loud helps bridge those gaps by encouraging awareness, connection, and collaboration. It is a way to make support easier to see, easier to talk about, and easier to access.
This work matters because early connection can change outcomes. A shared resource can open a door. A supportive conversation can reduce isolation. A visible message of care can remind someone that they are not alone.
The heart of OMHAC
Care Out Loud is the heart of the Onslow Mental Health Awareness Coalition.
OMHAC was created to strengthen mental health and substance use support in Onslow County through community outreach, resource connection, collaborative partnerships, accessible tools, and ongoing conversations about needs and gaps in care.
Through this work, Care Out Loud becomes more than a message. It becomes action.
